A few years ago, I was flying to Curaçao. My family lives there and I decided to go there for a couple of monts. Working and enjoying life on the other side of the planet. So a lot of sun, sea, and remote work vibes were calling. It started all good, I was pretty excited and I left on a rainy then from Schiphol. But when I landed and headed to baggage claim, my suitcase never arrived. I waited. And waited. Nothing. I was really panicked. I traveled often to these islands and I know they are sometimes a bit laid back and they have no stress. So I thought maybe they forgot it or its on another suitcase belt at the airport. Also I realised that, my entire trip was packed into that suitcase. Clothes, travel essentials, and even my goodl old laptop (which I’d checked in for safety, ironically). Eventually, the airline staff delivered the dreaded news to me. And actually they called me on my phone when I stayed in my first appartment. They said: “Sir, your suitcase was accidentally offloaded… in Aruba.” Yes, on a completely different island. That is because I booked a flight from Amsterdam to Curacao via Aruba. A short stopover. During these 30 mins. my suitcase was offloaded.
If I had owned an AirTag then, I could’ve seen exactly where my bag was, shown the airline staff proof, and avoided hours of stress and confusion.
